MT5, or MetaTrader 5, is a trading platform. You can use it to open, close and manage trades, as well as monitor and analyse the markets in real-time.
Both MT4 and MT5 are efficient, innovative trading platforms with many features designed to boost your trading. MT4 is often a popular choice with new and beginner traders but it all depends on your personal preferences. MT5 does include additional tools such as the Economic Calendar and embedded community chat - but not every trader wants these. You can always try both platforms and see which one works for you.
Many traders prefer to use industry favourite MT4, as it’s a little simpler than MT5, while still offering a wide range of tools and indicators. MT5 has additional chart timeframes and features like Netting. It was also designed to offer greater access to CFDs, stocks and futures. It all depends on your own unique trading needs.
MetaTrader is the platform you use to trade on, but any profits you make are made on your trading account with your broker. Once you have created an account with FXTM, it will be directly linked to your platform.
MT5 is completely free to download. You will of course need to fund your trading account to start trading.
It depends on your personal preference. MT4 was specifically designed for FX traders, while MT5 was built with CFD, stock and futures traders in mind - although you can still trade FX on MT5, and you aren't limited solely to FX on MT4 either. Traders looking to analyse the markets in greater depth might benefit from the additional technical indicators and timeframes that MT5 offers.
No, afraid not. You need a trading account that you have opened with a broker, which you then connect to through the MetaTrader platform. Trading on MT4 with an online broker like FXTM does mean you'll have access to other benefits including customer support, rapid execution and educational resources to help you on your way.
No, it is completely free to download. You will need to fund your trading account though to start making trades.
